Summary of Position

Under the general direction of the Web and Mobile Development Manager, the Search Engine Optimitization specialist will manage search engine optimization activities for the University web pages including content strategy, link building and keyword strategy to increase rankings on all major search networks and Search Engine Marketing campaigns. The SEO specialist will work to continuously improve overall SEO, SEM and UX and UI best practices by analyzing, reviewing and implementing changes to information architecture, linking, content and landing pages. This individual will also work with clients to assist with and build knowledge about web analytics, dashboards, reports and key reporting tools.

Other minimum qualifications

- Experience in web content production, management and development plus demonstrated SEO experience
- Knowledge of web analytics, and experience gathering and analyzing user research
- Understanding of database structure, information architecture, taxonomy, ontology, and information management
- Experience with content management systems such as Drupal
- Knowledge of current best practices in web design, usability, accessibility and regulatory compliance
- Excellent analytical, organizational, project management and time management skills

Additional Preferred Qualifications

- In-depth experience with website analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Google Keyword, NetInsight, Omniture, WebTrends
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript development and constraints
- Experience with A/B testing and multivariate experiments
- Knowledge of ranking factors and search engine algorithms
- Familiarity with web content accessibility guidelines
- The ability to work with back-end SEO elements such as .htaccess, robots.txt, metadata, site speed optimization, and related skills
- Proven success in link building and viral strategies
- The ability to deploy an effective local and long-tail search strategy
- A deep understanding of mobile strategy and how it relates to SEO
- Experience in building inbound organic search traffic and improving SERPs
- A background in creating reports showing web analytics data and site evaluations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

Duties / Responsibilities

Job Duties


Optimization duties:
•Optimize copy and landing pages for search engine marketing
•Perform ongoing keyword discovery, expansion and optimization
•Research and implement search engine optimization recommendations
•Research and analyze competitor advertising links
•Develop and implement link building strategy
•Recommend changes to website architecture, content, linking and other factors to improve SEO positions for target keywords
•Perform keyword research in coordination with client business objectives to optimize existing content and uncover new opportunities
•Monitor and evaluate search results and search performance across the major search channels
•Research and administer social media tools in support of clients’ social media strategy


Analysis duties:
•Execute tests, collect and analyze data and results, identify trends and insights in order to achieve maximum ROI in paid search campaigns
•Track, report, and analyze website analytics and PPC initiatives and campaigns
•Provide SEO analysis and recommendations in coordination with elements and structure of websites and web pages
•Administer search engine programs (XML sitemaps, shopping feeds, webmaster tools) for purposes of diagnostic reporting on client projects
•Monitor and administer web analytics dashboards, reports and key reporting tools, and point out key areas of importance in accordance client goals


Content Development duties:
•Work with editorial and marketing teams to drive SEO in content creation and content programming
•Provide recommendations and execute strategies for content development in coordination with SEO goals – general and keyword specific
•Help to create and support marketing content to socialize and use for social media purposes (e.g. customer videos briefs, customer case studies, blog posts, posts from analysts and customers)


Project Management & Collaboration duties:
•Communication to team and management on project development, timelines, and results
•Work closely with the other team members to meet client goals
•Work with the development team to ensure SEO best practices are properly implemented on newly developed code
•Work with communication managers and web editors to develop institutional capacity around SEO, SEM, etc.
