Summary of Position

Using critical thinking, creativity, and well-honed analytical skills, this position is responsible for the information utilization needs for the Advancement division. The position will develop and maintain a reporting strategy that will manage a suite of business intelligence tools in a manner that helps Advancement make more informed strategic and operational business decisions. The position will be responsible for architecting, designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining reporting and business intelligence initiatives. This position works directly with functional end-users to translate their business process needs into sophisticated reporting solutions meeting a broad range of needs. The position will serve as the primary subject matter expert for all things related to the Advancement data environment. This position also serves as the primary liaison to the Management Reporting team within the Enterprise Computing Group and works closely with this team to develop and implement the entire and comprehensive suite of reporting and business intelligence tools available to the University Advancement division and the University as a whole.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Highly skilled in PL/SQL query development with proficiency in BusinessObjects/Crystal Reports reporting technologies or another major BI tool (Cognos, Hyperion, InfoMaker, etc.). Demonstrated experience in business & systems analysis for business intelligence efforts with knowledge of data warehousing & data mart concepts. Exemplary analytical and communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Experience in Advancement/Development preferred but not required.

Duties / Responsibilities

Job Duties


Provide senior-level analysis and technical expertise during all phases of reporting and the business intelligence (BI) lifecycle. Work with analysts, programmers, business process owners, and end-users to determine scope and requirements for BI solutions. Perform extensive analysis and establish logical and physical design for reporting solutions.


Lead mid-sized to large technical and business intelligence projects. Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for all projects that will impact our database design and BI architecture.


Develop and maintain an Advancement reporting strategy that will define the tools and procedures that will empower Advancement to make full use of their constituent data.


Develop technical infrastructure for BI initiatives, including development of SQL Code. Develop and support reports for business intelligence initiatives.


Management of reporting policies & procedures and sole responsibility for the delivery time of Ad-hoc reports to end-users. Position will also help develop less senior reporting staff.


Skill development – maintaining currency and forecasting: maintain currency with new and emerging technologies as applicable to business intelligence and reporting.
