Summary of Position

Keene State College invites applications for the position of Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships. The Director will provide strategic leadership for all administrative functions within the Office of Financial Aid at Keene State College.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management, the Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships is responsible for collaborating with numerous internal and external constituents; representing the office to prospective students, family members, guidance counselors and current students; supporting ongoing financial literacy and use of the most up-to-date technology for financial aid; and addressing the complex financial needs that exist among a diverse student body.

The Director will develop, institute and evaluate innovative strategic change management in all areas of processing, staffing, leveraging and service to students and families and will continue to develop staff and foster a supportive workplace while meeting the needs of the greater college community.

Principal Responsibilities:
• Provide direct leadership, direction and daily supervision to the financial aid counseling staff, and work with the Associate Director to provide leadership and direction for processing staff.

• Coordinate and support the College’s strategic leveraging of institutional dollars in support of enrollment and retention goals. Ensure consistency in financial aid awards and scholarships throughout the student population.

• Provide technical leadership and ensure the College’s student information system is set up and maintained in accordance with reporting, compliance regulations, and the needs of current and potential students. Preference will be given to those applicants with Ellucian Colleague experience.

• Prepare and participate in internal and external audits, and advise/keep the College in compliance with all federal regulations regarding Title IV funding.

• Develop and maintain appropriate and timely communications to students, parents, guidance counselors and the campus community regarding changes in financial aid and college scholarship processes, deadlines and policies.

• Generate reports for internal and external agencies as needed.

• Provide leadership and oversight for selection and disbursement of the College’s endowed scholarship program. Work with colleagues in Advancement and Academic Affairs to maintain and establish appropriate policies and procedures for efficient awarding. Work with the Assistant Director of Financial aid to supervise all aspects of student scholarship eligibility, administration and deployment of funds.

Bachelor’s degree in pertinent area; minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience in higher education financial aid; strong supervisory skills; comprehensive understanding of Financial Aid concepts and guidelines; demonstrated record of effectively integrating financial aid awards in a way to improve enrollment and retention; ability to articulate financial aid programs, regulations, and philosophy to a variety of audiences, including: students, parents, guidance counselors, staff, administrators, and faculty; proven communication and presentation skills.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a pertinent field; additional years’ experience in higher education financial aid; working knowledge of Ellucian Colleague system; extensive financial aid leveraging/modeling experience; demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team towards the fulfillment of goals.
