Summary of Position

The University of New Hampshire (UNH) invites applications for the Director of the Lifetime Activity Program in the College of Health and Human Services. The successful candidate will be a responsible for the development, leadership, implementation, and evaluation of a credit-based undergraduate curriculum focused on building skills and competencies to encourage lifelong participation in health and wellness-enhancing activities. The Director will assume the day-to-day tasks of planning, organizing and leading the Lifetime Activity Program, and will work closely with a faculty and staff curriculum committee. The director will hold the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor in the College of Health and Human Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assess the needs for lifetime activities on the UNH campus, and prioritize for development based on student needs and interests.
• Plan an annual schedule of Lifetime Activity Program offerings.
• Develop program curriculum, including developing syllabi and calendars, and class policies and procedures.
• Develop common objectives related to physical activity, health, and wellness that will be customized for inclusion in individual lifetime activities.
• Implement a student grading and evaluation system that can be tailored to each course, including assessing class participation/attendance, activity knowledge, and skills.
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate graduate student and professional instructional staff to teach appropriate activities.
• Coordinate with on- and off-campus entities to secure and schedule facilities for Lifetime Activity offerings, and arrange transportation for off-campus activities.
• Develop and implement sound risk management practices for students and instructors based on best practices and industry standards.
• Develop and monitor a budget for the Lifetime Activity Program, and work with and seek potential sponsors to offset program costs.
• Develop and implement a marketing and communications plan for the Lifetime Activity Program, including but not limited to developing and maintaining a program website, implementing a social media strategy, working with UNH Media Relations to develop stories of interest, and coordinating with the UNH Undergraduate Advising Center to get the word out about offerings.
• Develop and implement an on-going program assessment and evaluation plan to provide for quality improvement.
• Meet regularly with the Lifetime Activity Program Committee comprised of faculty and staff to obtain input, expertise, and advice on program administration.
• Assist faculty and graduate students in research related to the Lifetime Activity Program.
• Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to teaching course sections, participating in appropriate professional development opportunities, and serving on college and university committees as appropriate.
• Coordinate the conversion of special topics Lifetime Activity Program Courses to permanently approved UNH courses.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

An earned Master’s degree in recreation, physical education, health education or health promotion or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with an earned doctorate in the same fields. Candidates must have experience teaching and/or organizing recreational physical activities including but not limited to fitness, individual and team sports, strength and conditioning, and outdoor activities.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Preference will also be given to CHES, NIRSA, CPRP or other certified candidates. Candidate should have experience with program and curriculum design, implementation, marketing, and evaluation. Professional work experience hiring, training, and evaluating staff is prioritized.

Institution Information

The College of Health and Human Development consists of eight departments including Kinesiology and Recreation Management and Policy. Both these departments will be involved in overseeing the Lifetime Activity Program. The University of New Hampshire is a major research institution, providing comprehensive, high-quality undergraduate programs and graduate programs of distinction. UNH is located in Durham on a 188-acre campus, 60 miles north of Boston and 8 miles from the Atlantic coast, and is convenient to New Hampshire’s lakes and mountains. There is a student enrollment of 14,500 students, with a full-time faculty of over 600, offering 90 undergraduate and more than 70 graduate programs.
