Summary of Position

The Assistant Director of Residential Life is primarily responsible for: the selection, training, and supervision of hall staff; building respect and understanding for inclusive communities; enhancing academic achievement; guiding community development; promoting responsible behavior; and creating an environment that promotes personal, social, and academic development.

The successful candidate will provide leadership and supervision to the live-in professional staff and provide support for department initiatives through consultation with the Central Staff.

The Assistant Director will manage the Community Advisor program, including the recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, and recognition of student staff. In fulfilling these duties, the AD will shape a shared model for student staff training and development for all areas of student affairs.
The Assistant Director creates, develops, and maintains outreach opportunities and programs designed to assist first-year residential students in the transition to college, improving student success, retention and satisfaction. In addition, the AD will work collaboratively with the Student Engagement team to foster co-curricular opportunities that align with Plymouth’s Integrated Cluster Learning Model.
The Assistant Director serves on and participates in various departmental and university committees and represents the department by serving as liaison to campus departments, parents, students and the community. Some evening and weekend hours are expected to accommodate trainings, programs, crisis intervention and emergency response.

Master’s Degree and 2-5 years of progressive management experience in an educational setting. Demonstrated leadership and organizational development abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with senior administration.
Supervisory experience including hiring, training, development and performance management
Full-time experience in Residence Life in a university setting.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in related field (Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel)

The successful candidate will be creative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated. Other essential qualities include excellent administrative, collaborative, communication, leadership, and decision-making skills and the ability to work autonomously in a team atmosphere. In addition, this position will be expected to possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Salary Information

Salary is complemented by a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, retirement, tuition, and paid time off.
Salary Range: $54,990 to $64,000. Final salary will be dependent upon the education and experience of candidate.

Duty/Responsibility

In collaboration with Student Affairs leadership, assist in creating and implementing strategies to constantly improve the residential life experience of all students living on campus.
Select, supervise, train, coach and performance manage multiple professional staff and student workers in all aspects of their live-in positions and provide coverage for the residence halls 24/7. This includes academic year, winterim, summer students, and summer conferences.
Create and assess programming model focused on meeting the needs and wants of the residential population and with an emphasis on outside of the classroom learning. Specific focus on aligning with Plymouth State’s integrated Cluster Learning Model.
Explore and coordinate leadership development efforts in residence halls and advises student organizations when applicable.
Exercise independent judgment in managing aspects of the Residential Life budget.
Provide training for staff to respond to day to day student and parent concerns about housing. Maintain strong customer service procedures departmentally and respond personally to parents and students with unresolved or escalated concerns. Develop and implement policies and procedures regarding all aspects of residential life.
Provide training for staff to respond to day to day residential student concerns. Work with University Police staff to ensure that measures protecting the health, well-being, and safety of residential and campus community members are achieved and maintained. Respond to concerns that arise on a 24/7 basis.
Ensure office compliance with applicable laws, including, but not limited to, Title IX and the FERPA; exercise best practices with regard to the maintenance of confidential student information.
