Summary of Position

Under the review of the Medical Director, the physician will evaluate, advise and treat members of the UNH community, mostly students, for primary care health and medical concerns. This is to be done within the accepted scope of practice for the individual physician. If the physician is, additionally, a certified specialist in an area of medicine, the scope of practicing that specialty at Health Services will be determined by the Health Services Leadership Team.

Other minimum qualifications

Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree and satisfactory completion of medical internship.
Board Eligible or Board Certified in field of clinical training.
Possession of current license to practice medicine in the State of New Hampshire.
Good communication skills, both oral and written.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

At least 2 years experience practicing medicine in a primary care outpatient medical setting. Skill/experience in clinical areas of men’s/women’s/transgender health, sports medicine and/or eating concerns is highly desirable.
Skill in using computers and an electronic health record. College Health experience.

Duties / Responsibilities

Job Duties


Interview and examine patients to determine nature and extent of illness or health concern.
Order various tests in an appropriate and cost-effective manner, if indicated, to provide information on the problem.
Critically analyze information to make accurate diagnosis.
Refer to colleagues or specialists, when appropriate.
Recommend and prescribe appropriate treatments, as necessary, and plan follow-up care and/or evaluations when indicated. Document all patient encounters thoroughly and in a timely manner in the electronic health record.


Advise patients concerning diet, hygiene and methods of prevention of disease.
Provide guidance and help during public health situations affecting the UNH community, e.g. epidemics.
Maintain current knowledge on latest medical research, techniques and treatments and share this with colleagues.


Participate on committees.
May have supervisory duties.
Perform other related duties, as directed.
