Implantable electrodes for multi-analyte detection of neurotransmitters: The principal investigator of this project is Edward Song in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNH. This project will focus on developing a microscale implantable sensing device for measuring multiple neurotransmitters (such as dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, etc.) in the brain. The eventual goal is to be able to apply this technology for in vivo measurement for extended periods of time for studying neurological/mental disorders and understanding the signaling mechanisms within the brain. The project will also involve proof-of-concept testing of the developed microelectrodes under the microfluidic environment prior to the in vivo experiments. In addition to expertise in electrochemical sensors, a prospective candidate should also have a strong background in microfabrication, neurotransmitters detection, microfluidics, BioMEMS, and lab-on-a-chip systems.
