Summary of Position

The Department of Safety and Occupational Health Applied Sciences (SOHAS) at Keene State College invites applications for two new faculty positions in the Safety and Occupational Health Program beginning August 2018. The College reserves flexibility to appoint tenure-track or clinical rank dependent upon qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Candidates for Assistant Professor must hold an earned doctorate in Occupational Safety or related field. ABD near completion will be considered, but must be complete by August 1, 2019. All candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field, current CSP or CIH, demonstrated high school or college level teaching effectiveness in class, online and/or lab, including planning preparation, teaching, assessment and continuous improvement. The College’s SOHAS program is growing recently adding a Construction Safety Sciences Program, assessing and improving all programs, aiming for ABET Program accreditation.

The successful candidates will deliver effective and engaging courses to support student understanding, application, assessment and improvement of Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Health Management Components and Systems. Candidates with demonstrated knowledge and skills in occupational safety and health, construction safety, toxicology, industrial hygiene, environmental health, risk management, ergonomics, loss control, and injury and illness prevention strategies are particularly desirable. Teaching venues include classroom, laboratory, and on-line, for both undergraduate and graduate SOHAS program degrees. These appointments serve the College’s Safety and Occupational Health majors with primary teaching responsibilities integrating the following areas: leadership and management of safety, health and environmental processes, risk management, adult education and training, hazardous material handling, safety, occupational and environmental legal aspects, fire sciences and disaster practices, injury and illness prevention and organization strategies for proactive health and safety improvement. Additional responsibilities will include student advisement, curriculum development, laboratory management, department and committee service and scholarly activity for tenure-track. Teaching load will vary depending on position type and typically includes three to four (4 credit courses) per academic semester. Faculty may also have an opportunity to teach courses in the College’s Integrative Studies Program http://www.keene.edu/isp/.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field; Current CSP or CIH; demonstrated high school or college level teaching effectiveness in class, online and/or lab, including planning, preparation, teaching, assessment and continuous improvement required. Candidates for Assistant Professor must also hold an earned doctorate in Occupational Safety or related field and have 5 years plus of professional applied experience (external to the classroom or laboratory) that demonstrates successful application of occupational safety and health principles. ABD near completion will be considered, but must be complete by August 1, 2019. Non-terminally degreed candidates must also have 10 years plus of professional applied experience (external to the classroom or laboratory) that demonstrates successful application of occupational safety and health principles.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Board certification such as CE, CPE, CHMM, CIE, PE and ARM.

Salary Information

Salary is in accordance with the prevailing Collective Bargaining Agreement. An earned doctorate is required for the rank of Assistant Professor; rank minimum for fall 2016 is $66,800. ABD will be considered for Instructor’s rank and is $59,470 minimum in fall 2016. Salary at the rank of Clinical Instructor is also based on the CBA and is $54,640 minimum for fall 2016.
