Summary of Position

Keene State College invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Theatre and Dance starting August 2018. We are seeking a multi-faceted modern dance artist with a background in research and choreography, dance education, and artistic direction.

Our BA program has a modern focus and three dance specializations: Choreography and Performance, Dance Education, and a Dance Education /Dual Degree. The Dual Degree, in conjunction with Elementary Education or Early Childhood Development, leads to two degrees, a B.A. in Theatre and Dance and a B.S. in Education.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Education Department to administer the Dance Education Specialization and Dance Education Specialization/Dual Degree; serve as the coordinator for the dance program and the producing artistic director for dance concerts; contribute to mainstage production as a choreographer; provide oversight of program assessment, accreditation reports, and compliance with Department of Education and NEASC standards.

Teaching load is 3/3 with possible standard release time for academic coordination duties. The successful candidate will teach modern technique, dance education practicum, research, and dance composition courses at a variety of levels. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, student mentoring, committee participation, and community service. Continuing excellence in teaching, service, and scholarly activity is expected to qualify for reappointment, tenure, and promotion.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

An MFA degree in dance; at least three years of college or professional teaching experience; demonstrated ability to manage the Dance Education Specialization and program assessment; ability to serve as the producing artistic director for dance concerts.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching dance education practicum; demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development and involvement with contemporary practices of the discipline; a strong portfolio of work at the regional level in modern dance.

Salary Information

Salary is in accordance with the prevailing Collective Bargaining Agreement; rank minimum for fall 2016 was $66,800 for Assistant Professors. Salary is complemented by a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, retirement, and tuition.
