Summary of Position

Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President for Development and External Engagement for the Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics, this position qualifies, cultivates, and solicits UNH alumni and friends, focusing on gifts of $25K or more. The expectation is that 70% of work time be devoted to front-line fundraising and pipeline cultivation; 15% to donor pipeline cultivation; and 15% to drive and manage committees and events, represent Advancement, and other duties. This is a college-based development officer position supporting priority initiatives within Paul College that will both contribute to a strong finish for the current campaign and lay the groundwork for the University’s next comprehensive campaign.

Other minimum qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of experience in fundraising, sales, or related field.
- Excellent written and persuasive verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy.
- Documented success in relationship building and closing major gifts.
- Ability to travel approximately 50% of time and availability beyond usual working hours.
- Willingness to both work alone and ability to work collaboratively with college and university colleagues.
- Ability to maintain donor confidentiality when warranted.
- Skill using applicable computer software and programs.
- Valid driver’s license.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

- Advanced degree.
- Fundraising experience in public higher education.
- General knowledge of charitable giving vehicles, estate planning and current laws governing charitable giving.
- Comprehensive campaign experience in the higher education or non-profit arena.

Duties / Responsibilities

Job Duties


1. Major Gift Fundraising
• Manage a major gift portfolio of 300+ identified prospects heavy weighted in early qualification and sometimes untested. Successfully and effectively move prospects through the donor lifecycle by building relationships with prospective and current donors to maximize their lifetime philanthropic relationship with UNH and The Paul College of Business. Collaborate with university and college colleagues, including teams such as alumni relations, corporate and foundation development, annual giving, and gift planning, to strategically move donors and prospects.
• Develop an annual activity plan for assigned campaign gift prospects. Travel throughout the state, region, and nation, often with senior leadership officials, to cultivate and solicit assigned donor prospects.
• In close coordination with your supervisor, engage, advise, and partner with college and university administrators, faculty, and friends in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of assigned prospects.
• Working closely with the Paul College team, recruit, cultivate, and train key volunteers in pursuit of fundraising goals and guide/provide leadership in their fund-raising efforts.
• Supervise gift acknowledgment process and assure that donors’ wishes have been met.
• Negotiate and craft proposals and gift agreements.


2. Donor Discovery and Engagement
• Primarily through face-to-face visits, expand and refine the pool of donors and begin connecting individuals to the College of Business based on information gathered about a prospective donor’s passion and interests. Examples of volunteer engagements are mentoring relationships, advisory boards, event participation, and business partner programs.
• Forge relationships with new constituents and establish networks of donors leading to the identification of new potential high capacity donors by working with the Paul College team, the Dean, Foundation staff, and other leadership.
• Initiate direct constituent engagement with the Dean and/or faculty to engage individual donors and draw them closer to the College’s priorities and initiatives.
• Assist in planning and attend high-level donor events and board and advisory group activities.


3. Drive and Manage Committees and Events; Represent Advancement; Other Duties
• Participate in a long-range strategic planning process to grow the major gift pipeline in preparation for the next comprehensive campaign.
• Work closely with the Asst. VP and Dean to establish a vision and fundraising plan for the Paul College of Business.
• Provide visible leadership across the entire organization as a member of the Foundation’s development staff by engaging with university-wide stakeholders.
• Act as liaison with campus, legal counsel, and USNH officials regarding tax law, gift acceptance and stewardship.
• Report bi-monthly to the Asst. Vice President of Development and External Engagement and other officials as needed on strategies and progress.
