Job Description

Please note this job is located in the Grafton County Cooperative Extension office in North Haverhill, N.H.

Role:
Under general guidance of designated Food and Agriculture Field Specialist, manage Master Gardener events, volunteers, activities and educational programs. 10 hours per week.

Volunteer Management
1. Establish and manage a system for recruiting, orienting, training, evaluating and recognizing Master Gardener volunteers in Grafton County.
2. Involve volunteers in conducting educational programs and activities in accordance with the UNH Cooperative Extension Volunteer Management System.

Educational Programming
1. Demonstrate a working knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the Master Gardener Program.
2. Provide information and assistance to clientele, volunteers, and groups as directed or requested.
3. Coordinate arrangements for meetings, programs, and activities and assist in the organization of groups.
4. Provide educational programming in collaboration with state or regional field specialists.
5. Provide program support primarily within a county. Occasional statewide or out-of-state travel in support of local programs may be required.
6. Ensure programmatic involvement of under-served and under-represented audiences and that all educational programming is conducted in full accordance with civil rights, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action (AA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) policies and procedures.
7. Respond to requests for educational information from the general public and make referrals as appropriate.
8. Perform routine office tasks such as preparing materials, coordinating publications and maintaining records and files.

Staff Development
With input from supervisor, develop and implement a professional development plan to enhance competence in assigned programs, teaching methods, group process, facilitation and organizational skills.

External Relations
1. Implement county marketing strategies to promote UNH, UNH Cooperative Extension and related programs in accordance with the organization’s marketing policies.
2. Build and maintain partnerships with county agencies and other groups and organizations as appropriate.
3. Build relationships with elected and appointed officials.

Information Technology and Distance Education/Communications and Marketing

1. Model and promote the use of technology, including social media, video conferencing, web-based and other emerging technologies in educational program delivery.
2. Demonstrate effective interpersonal verbal and written skills.
3. Demonstrate effective problem solving skills.
4. Maintain ongoing communication with supervisors and program team leaders and keep them fully apprised of issues, programs and accomplishments.

Organizational Leadership and Support

1. Conduct effective meetings, presentations and group decision making processes for clientele and volunteers within county.
2. Serve on internal and external boards and committees at the county level, as appropriate, to enhance programs and professional competence.
3. Assist in publicizing Master Gardener programs and training opportunities in the county.
4. Manage local Master Gardener reporting system and assist volunteers with reporting as necessary.
5. Perform other duties as assigned, for example maintaining a narrative of volunteer activities from year to year.

This is a non-benefited position. 10 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

Minimal Educational Requirements: Bachelors level or higher in appropriate discipline.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of education and experience that includes adult education or volunteer management. Additional experience with agriculture or landscape horticulture required.

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are necessary, as staff person must be able to meet travel demands of the position.

Night and weekend work are sometimes required by program demands.

Computer literate with extensive knowledge and of email, word processing, excel and internet as well as adaptability to learning new software. Understanding of social media is strongly preferred.
